Winter Fruit

Cranberries are still in season. They add a wonderful color and acidic flavor to foods. Use them as a relish for chicken or turkey; sprinkle chopped cranberries into salads, cook them with pears or apples for dessert.Pears and apples are available and can easily be packed for lunches and snacks. They are great sliced into salads. Or you can grill or bake them with chicken.Oranges and tangerines are ready to go. It is a good idea to peel them and wrap them when using in a lunchbox - that way they have a better chance of being eaten.Grapefruits and pummelos are delicious citrus treats that are at their best right now. We find that if they are sectioned and flavored with a little honey they disappear fast.Limes and lemons add a lot of flavor and zing to foods without a lot of salt. A bulk bag is usually less expensive than buying individually and you can use them on salads, with fish, in home-made salsa or over fruit for dessert.
