You ask, we deliver! Lots of people have been writing to me lately asking for more trivia about healthful foods.

And that totally makes sense! After all, trivia is fun to sprinkle into newsletters, or to use as icebreakers at the start of a cooking demonstration or presentation. Plus, trivia makes old foods fun again and it makes new foods more accessible. What's not to love?

Today we're starting a new series, all about trivia! We'll begin with seasonal fruit, and what could be more appropriate for fall than apples?

So without further ado, here are five fun facts about apples!

Fun Fact #1: There are over 7,000 kinds of apples growing all over the world!

Fun Fact #2: The science of apple growing has a fantastic name: pomology.

Fun Fact #3: An apple peel contains two-thirds of an apple's total fiber, along with lots of antioxidants.

Fun Fact #4: Apples are members of the rose family.

Fun Fact #5: Apples are 25% air! That's why they float in water.

Peak apple season typically lasts between the end of August and the end of October, so there's lots of fun to be had with apples before the end of the month.
