Best of FAH: November 2023 Edition

November seems to have flown past! While there’s much left to look forward to this year, let’s take this opportunity to look back at our most popular articles and recipes from this month.

One of this month’s top articles is Lighten Your Holiday Cooking with MyPlate. While we’ve made it past Thanksgiving, there’s plenty more holidays coming up next month, and plenty of opportunities for trying something new in the kitchen. Holiday cooking may get a bad rap for being heavy, fattening, and not too healthy, but cooking lighter doesn’t mean sacrificing festive flavor. Better yet, these MyPlate tips to lighten your cooking don’t just apply to the holidays—they’re great advice that your clients and students can use year round!

In her blog post this month, Lisa Andrews, MEd, RD, LD, writes, “Nearly everyone I know has been impacted by cancer, whether they had the diagnosis themselves or knew a loved one, co-worker, or close friend with cancer. As a previous hospital dietitian, I also encountered and counseled several patients dealing with cancer. While genetics, smoking, and other lifestyle factors affect your risk of cancer, diet continues to take precedence in the prevention of cancer.” Read her explanation of a recent study on the AICR Cancer Prevention Recommendations now in Lifestyle Modifications to Reduce Cancer Risk. Remember to download the free handout at the bottom of the page for a handy guide to share with your clients!

Finally, you won’t want to miss our healthy, pumpkin-centered take on a fall classic: the pumpkin spice latte! Pumpkin spice lattes can be fun to get at a coffee shop or chain, but they’re often full of sugar and extra calories. Our Pumpkin Latte is rich, a little spicy, and not too sweet—plus, it’s so easy to make!
