Food News:Farm-Raised Salmon

We asked James Kenney, PhD, RD, LD, FACN, about farm-raised salmon and toxins. Here is his reply, “We really don’t have any good data about the risk from the dioxin levels in farmed fish. It certainly makes sense to eat wild caught rather than farmed salmon just in case it turns out to be high enough to pose a risk of cancer, but at this point it is just speculation. The amount in farmed salmon is within FDA guidelines, but this assumes a relatively moderate intake of fish. The EPA guidelines on the other hand are very stringent and they often err on the side of caution.”
